What is Torobi?
Torobi is a Japanese and Korean table-grill restaurant located at Av. Presidente Masaryk 513, in Polanco, Mexico City. It was born from Chef Kazu Kumoto's vision: bring the Japanese slow-fire tradition to Mexico, in a format where every guest cooks at their own pace, with no rush and no rules. It's an experience to share, talk, and enjoy premium meats and seafood at the center of the table.
What does "Torobi" mean?
"Torobi" comes from Japanese とろ火, which means slow fire. It captures the essence of the restaurant: cook slowly, with care, savoring the process. It's not just a technique — it's a philosophy. There's no rush to finish here. The experience starts the moment the fire is lit.

Kazu Kumoto is a Japanese chef and gastronomic entrepreneur based in Mexico, founder of Torobi and of the iconic Tori Tori restaurant. He is recognized as one of the most influential Japanese chefs in Mexico and was appointed Goodwill Ambassador by the Government of Japan. His cuisine isn't just about flavor — it aims to convey Japanese culinary culture and technique with authenticity.
What kind of cuisine does Torobi serve?
We serve Japanese and Korean table grill: premium meats, fresh seafood, and selected vegetables cooked directly on the grill embedded in your table. The menu also includes starters, sides, and pairing options designed to complement the slow-fire experience. Everything is designed to eat as a group, share, and enjoy without rushing.
How does the table grill work?
Every table has a lit grill at the center. We bring the ingredients ready to cook and our team guides you if it's your first time. You decide the doneness, the pace, and the order. There's no wrong way to do it — it's your experience. The idea is that the food becomes part of the conversation.
